Different Kinds of Yoga Practices

Yoga, the union between mind, body and soul, is one of the most practised forms of workout across the globe. According to ayurveda, it is the most ideal way to balance out the tridoshas in the body. There are primarily three kinds of body types, based on the dominance of the doshas. Similarly, there are different types of yoga forms appropriate for each of the dosha dominant bodies.

Hatha yoga is considered the best for beginners, as it is a mix of different asanas, meant to balance both heat and coolness of the body. It requires one to dwell into constant practice rather than forceful movements. It’s a great option for anyone thinking of starting out with yoga, it should include a mix of asana (poses), pranayama (breathing exercises), and meditation.

Vinyasa Yoga is a slightly powered-up class, wherein the poses are held for a shorter duration, it involves complex moves and balances and it essentially is an offshoot of power yoga. Twists, arm balances, sun salutations etc. are all a part of vinyasa flow.

Ashtanga yoga, as the term suggests, is a complex form of yoga involving a lot of physical flow and movement associated with self paced practice. Ashtanga classes are usually longer and follow a set sequence. Its great for people looking out for a physically challenging yet spiritual flow.

Lastly, yin yoga is a restorative form of yoga, which involves longer holds and stretches targeting tight muscle groups such as hamstrings, neck and hips. It is usually performed with blocks, straps and round pillows.
