When the Campus Chose Competition Over Classrooms: HURIK’26

For a brief window in the academic calendar, NMIMS ASMSOC Mumbai felt different. Not quieter- louder. Not slower- charged. Classrooms emptied faster, corridors filled quicker, and the campus found a new centre of gravity: HURIK’26.

The second edition of the Grand Inter-Division Sports Tournament did not arrive quietly. It arrived with noise, colour, and an unmistakable sense of anticipation. What was once “just another inter-division event” has now grown into one of the most emotionally charged traditions on campus- where sport becomes a medium for pride, rivalry, and collective identity.

For those few days, the usual hierarchies of marks, attendance, and deadlines dissolved. What mattered instead was which division you stood with, how loudly you cheered, and how far you were willing to push yourself for your team.

More Than Matches

The cricket ground bore witness to long spells of patience and pressure, where momentum shifted ball by ball and every boundary triggered roars from the stands. On the football field, matches unfolded at breakneck speed- quick transitions, last-minute saves, and celebrations that spilled far beyond the touchline.

But HURIK’26 was never defined by scorelines alone. The competition was intense, yes- but never hollow. Every contest carried weight because it represented something larger than individual performance. Each player carried not just a jersey, but an entire division behind them.

This year also marked a noticeable expansion in the tournament’s scope. New sports brought fresh energy and new audiences. Pickleball, in particular, stood out- drawing curious first-timers and committed players alike. With support from Max Protein, Avaada Group, Ashtag Pickle, and AECC, the sport quickly established itself as one of the most engaging additions to the lineup.

Tug of War delivered one of the most powerful visual moments of the tournament. With no technical advantage or tactical loopholes, success depended entirely on coordination and collective strength. Entire divisions pulling in sync became a living metaphor for what HURIK represents: progress through togetherness.

Beyond the physical fields, the competitive spirit extended into e-sports. FIFA and Clash Royale saw intense face-offs built on strategy, reflexes, and mental endurance. These matches reinforced an important truth: competition at HURIK is not limited by format- it thrives wherever skill and commitment meet.

What Stayed With People

Long after matches ended, HURIK’26 continued to live in smaller, quieter moments. In teams sitting together after tough losses. In opponents congratulating each other with genuine respect. In friends meeting for the first time because they wore the same colour.

These moments rarely make it to highlight reels, yet they are what participants remember most clearly. The exhaustion that came with satisfaction. The hoarse voices. The shared laughter after everything was over.

HURIK’26 demonstrated, once again, that sport has a unique ability to collapse distances. It brings together people from different divisions, years, and social circles—united by nothing more complicated than effort and belief.

A Growing Tradition

This edition did more than replicate the success of the past. It raised expectations. The scale of participation, the smooth coordination by the Sports Club, and the visible engagement from the student body confirmed that HURIK has crossed a threshold. It is no longer an experiment. It is a fixture.

As the final matches concluded and the campus slowly returned to routine, the shift was noticeable. Something had been built- not just memories, but momentum.

HURIK’26 reminded everyone that sport on campus is not an escape from academics, but a complement to it. It teaches discipline, resilience, empathy, and leadership- lessons that rarely appear on a syllabus.

And while the banners may come down and the fields fall silent, the impact remains. In the confidence of those who competed. In the bonds formed across divisions. In the understanding that when a campus moves together, it becomes something far stronger than the sum of its parts.

HURIK’26 didn’t just happen.
It left its mark.
