With the theme “Innovating for Sustainability: Transforming MICE and Tourism for Global Impact”, ISCOMICE 2025 is a scientific platform that brings together academics, professionals, and industry stakeholders to discuss innovation and sustainability practices in the MICE and tourism sector.
The Plenary Session “Bridging Practice and Academia: Innovating For Sustainability and Tourism For Global Impact” featured three international speakers. The first speaker, April Layla Joseph, emphasized the importance of sustainability as an imperative in today’s MICE world, driven by demands for accountability and transparency from attendees and sponsors. Discussions included calculating GHG emissions using ISO 14064, the importance of waste management with a “Zero Waste Event” approach, and the challenges and complexities stakeholders face in achieving sustainability.
Dr. Eunjung Kim as the second speaker, explained about maintaining a balance between innovation and ethics, especially regarding participants’ perceptions regarding the approval of using Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) in sustainable events. The presentation defined FRT and highlighted its benefits and risks in the context of events. Privacy issues and lack of clear consent were the main concerns.
On the other hand, Dr. Noel Scott discussed innovations aimed at sustainability within the MICE and tourism sector, focusing on transformation to create global impact. His presentation revealed how the MICE sector can improve competitiveness and the need for innovation in technology and sustainability. He also discussed the contributions of various actors in the MICE value chain such as specialist event agencies, hotels and convention centers, and their competitive advantages.
The 3rd ISCOMICE Awarding Ceremony was a moment of appreciation for the papers that contributed to the Scientific Conference. As a form of appreciation, the best paper in this conference will get the opportunity to be published in a SINTA 2 indexed journal, the Journal of Applied Sciences in Travel and Hospitality (JASTH). Meanwhile, other papers will be published in internationally indexed conference proceedings, as an effort to encourage the dissemination of knowledge and strengthen the role of academics in the development of the MICE sector and sustainable tourism.
The Best Paper award was given to the writing team of Imam Ardiansyah, Ika Suryono Djunaid, and Dewanta Facrureza, for their paper entitled: “An Analysis of the Tourism Attraction Potential of Koleang Village in Supporting Sustainable Tourism Development.” Meanwhile, the Best Presenter award was won by Ayu Sulistya Putri Sugeng, with a paper presentation entitled: “Social Media Marketing Activities on SMEs: How Gender and Generational Background Affect the Consumer Behavior.”
It is hoped that ISCOMICE 2025 will serve as a trigger for all MICE and tourism industry players to continue to integrate the principles of sustainability and innovation in their every strategic move.
