ISCOMICE 2025: Encouraging Sustainable Innovation in the MICE and Tourism Industry

Jakarta, July 1, 2025 – The MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition) Study Program at Politeknik Negeri Jakarta once again held its annual international scientific conference, The 3rd International Scientific Conference of MICE (ISCOMICE), on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Aminta Hall, Jakarta. This year’s ISCOMICE also marks a significant milestone—celebrating the 20th anniversary of the MICE Study Program’s commitment to producing top-tier human resources for the industry.
Carrying the theme “Innovating for Sustainability: Transforming MICE and Tourism for Global Impact,” ISCOMICE 2025 served as a scientific platform uniting academics, professionals, and industry stakeholders to explore innovations and sustainable practices within the MICE and tourism sectors.
The Plenary Session, titled “Bridging Practice and Academia: Innovating for Sustainability and Tourism for Global Impact,” featured three distinguished international speakers.
The first speaker, April Layla Joseph, emphasized the growing importance of sustainability in the MICE industry, propelled by increasing demands for accountability and transparency from both attendees and sponsors. Her talk covered critical aspects such as calculating greenhouse gas emissions using ISO 14064, waste management through a “Zero Waste Event” approach, and the complexities stakeholders face in striving for sustainability.
The second speaker, Dr. Eunjung Kim, addressed the delicate balance between innovation and ethics—particularly participant perceptions surrounding the use of Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) in sustainable events. Her presentation outlined the benefits and risks of FRT, with a strong emphasis on privacy concerns and the need for clear, informed consent.
Meanwhile, Dr. Noel Scott focused on sustainability-driven innovations in the MICE and tourism sectors, highlighting the importance of technological transformation in achieving global impact. He discussed how the industry can enhance competitiveness through innovation, and elaborated on the unique contributions of various players in the MICE value chain—including specialist event agencies, hotels, and convention centers—each with distinct competitive advantages.
The 3rd ISCOMICE Awarding Ceremony honored outstanding contributions to the conference. The Best Paper Award was presented to the team of Imam Ardiansyah, Ika Suryono Djunaid, and Dewanta Facrureza, for their paper titled “An Analysis of the Tourism Attraction Potential of Koleang Village in Supporting Sustainable Tourism Development.”
Meanwhile, the Best Presenter Award was given to Ayu Sulistya Putri Sugeng for her presentation “Social Media Marketing Activities on SMEs: How Gender and Generational Background Affect Consumer Behavior.”
As part of ISCOMICE’s commitment to academic excellence, the best paper will be published in the Journal of Applied Sciences in Travel and Hospitality (JASTH), a SINTA 2-indexed journal. Other selected papers will be published in internationally indexed conference proceedings—promoting knowledge dissemination and reinforcing the vital role of academia in shaping the future of the MICE and sustainable tourism industries.
ISCOMICE 2025 is expected to inspire MICE and tourism stakeholders to continuously integrate sustainability and innovation into every strategic decision. The collaboration between academics and practitioners through this forum is a crucial step in accelerating industry transformation on a global scale and strengthening Indonesia’s position as a nation that champions ethical, sustainable, and socially responsible growth in the MICE and tourism sectors.
