‘Kirdaar’ Takes Centre Stage as Frames Film Festival Marks Its 23rd Edition at SIES (Nerul),College of Arts,Science &Commerce (Autonomous)

The 23rd edition of the Frames Film Festival commenced on 5 February 2026 at SIES Nerul College of Arts, Science and Commerce (Autonomous), with an inauguration ceremony held at 11.30 am. Organised by the Department of Multimedia and Mass Communication, the opening marked the beginning of a celebration of cinema, creativity, and emerging talent. This year’s theme, Kirdaar, focused on role, responsibility, and purpose in filmmaking, highlighting both on screen characters and the unseen contributors who shape cinematic storytelling.The inauguration witnessed the presence of students, faculty members, and industry professionals, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and anticipation. Distinguished guests from the film and theatre fraternity addressed the audience and shared insights from their professional journeys. Their interactions emphasised cinema as a collaborative art form and encouraged young filmmakers to value discipline, teamwork, and creative integrity.

 

The first segment of the day was the  International Short Film Category, which showcased a curated selection of short films from across the world. The segment reflected diverse cultural perspectives and cinematic styles, reinforcing the festival’s commitment to global storytelling beyond linguistic and geographical boundaries. The films were evaluated by an esteemed jury comprising Mr Akash Dhar, Ms Pragati Deshmukh, and Mr Nitin Shashindran. The shortlisted international films screened included Berta, Celestiale,  La Paura dei Numeri (The Fear of Numbers), Ethereal, Matryoshka, and Sting of War, offering students valuable exposure to international filmmaking standards.

The National Short Film Category highlighted contemporary Indian short form cinema through narratives rooted in social, cultural, and personal realities. The films were evaluated by Mr Attar Singh Saini, Ms Priyanka Tanwar, and Mr Abhay Kulkarni. The shortlisted national films included Bramakamal, Emperor of the Sea, 17 Ve Varsha (The Seventeen Year), Rehaan Special, Praarambh, Geeli Farsh, and Mumbai Noir. Each film reflected a distinct creative voice and reinforced the importance of collaborative storytelling.

 

The event was conducted under the stead-fast support and guidance of  Principal Dr Koel Roy Choudhury, Head of Department Mr. Mithun Pillai , Chairperson of Frames Film Festival Mr.Abhishek Dandekar and other esteemed members of the institution.
